
I made this mistake as a new manager.
I was careless with my language.
Here’s what I did:
ππΌ I used generic language. Examples:
β “Can you look into it?”
β “Nice job”
β “ASAP”
ππΌ I should’ve used specific language. Examples:
β
“Can you review slides 7 and 8?
β
“Thank you for adding the timeline. This helps the exec. team”
β
“Can you please send me the report out by 10 AM CST today?”
Don’t make the mistake I did. Ask yourself:
β Am I being specific?
β Where can I be more specific?
β How do I need to be more specific?
Specificity builds performance, being general builds confusion. Start getting specific today. Your teams will be glad you did.
